Before joining OCA, James was a Legal Fellow at New Haven Legal Assistance Association, Inc. working on eviction defense litigation and supporting tenant organizing in New Haven. Prior to his work at LAA, James graduated in 2021 from a joint degree program at Harvard Law School and Harvard Divinity School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard BlackLetter Law Journal and worked with the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, Community Justice Project, and Greater Boston Legal Services on various issues related to housing law, building community power, and combatting racial injustice. During divinity school, he worked as a chaplain for Black Harvard undergraduates and collaborated with religious organizations in the Cambridge and Boston areas on programming around faith and race. In graduate school and beyond, James’s scholarly interests have included Black Studies, theology, music, legal theory, and their various intersections. Before his ministerial work and study, James received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College in 2015.
