Dear Governor Lamont:
I am writing to urge you to sign meaningful housing reform legislation this year, in a special session. We cannot wait until next year and all the added pressures that go along with an election year. People are in need today.
In June, when you vetoed HB 5002, you said you were determined to sign a housing reform bill that everyone could agree on. Since then, countless people in the state have stood up to tell you how serious the situation is on housing, and how many people are being left behind. I am urging you today not to ignore those voices.
Even people who have secure housing today know that it may not be the case tomorrow. Grown children are finding they have to move out of state, away from their families and communities, just to afford a place to live. Businesses are begging for a way to make it easier to hire people, who right now can’t afford to move to Connecticut.
Everyone heard what you said in vetoing HB 5002. You said you were determined to get this issue right. I am imploring you today to remember what you said, and call a special session to pass and sign a housing reform bill to take on exclusionary zoning and give the people of Connecticut a chance.
Thank you.
