Connecticut is one of the most segregated states in the country - and this segregation was generated by a long history of public and private actions. The tragic legacy of these actions is our inheritance as a society. It has shaped where we live, who can be our neighbors, and the demographics of our towns and regions. Please join Open Communities Alliance for this two-part series hosted by the Fairfield Museum and History Center and Westport Museum for History and Culture in partnership with First Church Congregational of Fairfield the Saugatuck Congregational Church of Westport, the Fairfield Affordable Housing Committee, and TEAM Westport.

Segregated by Design: How did we get here?
Join us to explore the history of government policies that contributed to residential segregation, both nationally and in Connecticut. We will examine the ways in which government policies shaped where affordable housing is located - or not located - throughout Fairfield County. A short film based on the book The Color of Law by Richard Rothstein will be shown before delving into local history, the impact of segregation, and experiences of local community members.
